Day 1 — Spiritual Rishikesh and the Evening Ganga Aarti

Morning — Triveni Ghat: Start before 7 AM at the largest and most sacred bathing ghat in Rishikesh. The morning ritual bath and temple bells across the Ganga create an experience unlike anything else in Uttarakhand.

Mid-morning — Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula: Walk across the iconic suspension bridges. The views with the river rushing below and hills rising on both sides are the most photographed in North India. The bridges are lined with temples, ashrams, and chai stalls.

Afternoon — Beatles Ashram: The ruins of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's ashram where the Beatles stayed in 1968 are now a heritage site. Extraordinary graffiti art covers every wall. Entry fee applies.

Evening — Parmarth Niketan Ganga Aarti: The largest evening Aarti in Rishikesh begins at 6 PM — hundreds of brass lamps, chanting, and an overwhelming spiritual atmosphere. Arrive 30 minutes early for a good viewing position.

Day 2 — Adventure: Rafting, Bungee, and Camping

Morning — White Water Rafting: The Ganga rafting season runs September to June. The 16 km Marine Drive to Rishikesh route includes Grade III and IV rapids — Three Blind Mice, Club House, and the famous Wall. The experience takes 3–4 hours including safety briefing. Pricing: ₹600–₹1,200 per person. Book through Uttarakhand Tourism-certified operators.

Afternoon — Bungee at Jumpin Heights: Located in Mohan Chatti 18 km from Rishikesh, offering India's highest bungee at 83 metres over a Himalayan gorge. Book in advance — slots fill days ahead during peak season.

Evening — Riverside Camping: Spending a night at camps between Shivpuri and Byasi is an Uttarakhand experience in itself — campfire dinners and waking to the Ganga in the morning.

Day 3 — Yoga, Wellness, and Day Trips

Morning — Yoga Class: Rishikesh has over 200 registered yoga schools. Parmarth Niketan runs excellent beginner sessions at 6 AM. Even non-practitioners find a single rooftop class overlooking the Ganga memorable.

Mid-morning — Markets and Cafes: Cafe de Goa, Little Buddha Cafe, and German Bakery are standouts. The markets sell Himalayan handicrafts, prayer beads, essential oils, and organic Uttarakhand honey.

Afternoon Day Trips:

  • Neelkanth Mahadev Temple (32 km): Sacred Shiva temple at 1,330 metres through dense forest. Budget 3 hours return.
  • Vashishtha Gufa (25 km): Ancient meditation cave on the Ganga, quiet and rarely crowded.
  • Rajaji National Park (15 km): Morning jeep safari with frequent elephant sightings and chances of leopard in the Chilla range.

Common Uttarakhand Travel Queries

The Char Dham Yatra season runs late April to mid-November, when the temples are open. Within that window, May–June and September–October are the most reliable months for driving — clear weather and (mostly) open roads. July and August fall in monsoon season, when landslides can close specific stretches like Rudraprayag–Joshimath for several hours at a time, so trips still run but with less predictable timing. If your dates are flexible, avoid the first two weeks after Yatra opening (late April), when road repair work from the winter closure is often still underway.
