Char Dham Yatra
Offline Travel Kit
Mobile network disappears for long stretches on the route to Kedarnath and Badrinath. Save or print this page before you go — emergency numbers, a packing checklist, and what to expect on the road, all in one place.
Quick Answer
What should I carry for the Char Dham Yatra in case of an emergency?
Carry a printed or downloaded copy of key emergency numbers — 112 (Police), 108 (Ambulance), 1070 (State Emergency Operations Centre) — along with offline Google Maps and physical photocopies of your ID. Mobile network is unreliable above Rudraprayag, so save this information before you lose signal.

Temple Opening Windows
Kedarnath and Badrinath traditionally open in late April or early May (on Akshaya Tritiya) and close around Diwali in October–November. Yamunotri and Gangotri follow a similar window. Exact dates are announced by the temple committees each year — always confirm current-year dates before finalising travel.
Packing Checklist
- Warm layered clothing (thermal wear, fleece, windproof jacket) — temperatures drop sharply after sunset even in summer
- Comfortable, broken-in walking shoes with good grip for wet stone paths
- Rain poncho or waterproof jacket — mountain weather changes fast
- Personal medications with a printed prescription, plus a basic first-aid kit
- Portable power bank — charging points are limited at higher altitudes
- Physical photocopies of ID proof, in addition to digital copies
- Cash in small denominations — card/UPI acceptance is unreliable near the temples
- Reusable water bottle and motion-sickness tablets if prone to it on hill roads
- A woolen cap, gloves, and warm socks — often forgotten and most needed
- Torch or headlamp for early-morning darshan queues
Route Facilities — What to Expect
Fuel & ATMs
Fuel pumps and ATMs become sparse beyond Rudraprayag, Joshimath, and Uttarkashi. Fill your tank and withdraw cash at these towns before continuing toward the temples — the last stretches often have none for 30–50 km.
Medical Facilities
District hospitals are based in Rudraprayag, Chamoli (Gopeshwar), and Uttarkashi. As of the 2026 season, a new 50-bed hospital is operational at Kedarnath and at Badrinath directly. Basic Medical Relief Posts are stationed along the trek routes.
Mobile Network
Network coverage is patchy or absent for long stretches above Rudraprayag and on the Kedarnath trek. BSNL/Jio tend to have the widest hill coverage. Inform family of expected check-in times before losing signal.
Offline Maps
Before you lose signal, open Google Maps, search your destination, tap your profile icon → Offline Maps → Select Your Own Map, and download the Rudraprayag-to-Kedarnath (or equivalent) corridor while still on WiFi or strong network.
If Something Goes Wrong
- For a medical emergency, call 108 first — it is a free, dedicated ambulance service active across Uttarakhand.
- For road blockage, landslide, or route disruption, call 1070 (State Emergency Ops Centre) for an official update before attempting an alternate route.
- Contact your driver or our dispatch team at +91 92589 12169 — we can advise on real-time road conditions from other vehicles on the same route.
- If registration documents or ID are lost, report to the nearest police post (dial 112) and inform the Yatra registration helpdesk at your last checkpoint.
Why an offline kit matters on this route
The roads to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri pass through terrain where mobile towers thin out fast. Pilgrims who assume they can "just Google it" on the way often find themselves without signal exactly when they need directions, a hospital number, or a fuel station the most. Having this information saved offline — printed, screenshotted, or downloaded as a PDF — removes that risk entirely.
The Uttarakhand government has significantly expanded emergency medical infrastructure for the 2026 season, including new 50-bed hospitals directly at Kedarnath and Badrinath. But knowing which number to call, and having it ready before an emergency happens, still makes the difference between a fast response and a panicked search for a signal bar.
