There are two ways in from Moradabad: the Rampur–Haldwani–Kathgodam highway (faster, standard route) or the Kaladhungi forest road (scenic, quieter, occasionally rougher in patches) — our drivers pick based on same-day road conditions rather than defaulting to one.

The last ~40 km from Haldwani or Kaladhungi into Nainital is genuine hill road — budget extra time here even though the highway portion before it is generally excellent.

Monsoon months (July–September) bring a real landslide risk on the Kaladhungi stretch specifically — this is well known enough that road crews are typically stationed nearby during peak monsoon to clear debris.

Night driving on the hill portion isn’t recommended — fog, narrow turns, and limited lighting make it genuinely riskier after dark, so we plan arrivals before evening.
